The Care Standard

Contempt prior to investigation is a trap we fall into when we reject a person or body of knowledge off hand, based on their/its approach, appearance, or language. Anything and anyone can contribute something worthwhile if the space for contribution is held.

The definition and practice of ‘professionalism’ can include care.

Non-hierarchy does not have to mean disorder, and leadership does not have to be patriarchal.

Struggle does not breed creativity. Making art requires time, money, and physical, mental, and emotional space.

Art work, just like all other work, can be magical and spectacular when it comes from the heart; when it is a labor of love.

Care is not a radical concept. Care is a culture that can be learned and implemented.

Executive Care as in respecting one another’s time and energy.

Executive Care as in caring for one another’s quality of life within and outside of ‘work time’.

Executive Care, from a leadership perspective, as in understanding one’s role, clearly communicating expectations, and delegating when possible.

Executive Care as in creating space and finding time for follow-ups, check-ins, and questions throughout all project phases, while being mindful of the negative energy projected onto one’s surroundings and collaborators from commonly occurring emotions such as stress and anxiety.

Executive Care as in understanding that deadlines and milestones can be helpful tools that can alleviate stress and protect everyone’s time.

Executive Care as in understanding that ‘work time’ does not exist outside of ‘life time’; and that rest, and leisure must be accounted for when setting expectations.

Executive Care as in understanding that history and time are non linear, and that everyone experiences time differently, especially neurodivergent individuals.

Executive Care as in being mindful of and holding space for the prevalence of neurodivergence and learning disabilities and adjusting communication and expectations accordingly.

Executive Care as in upholding the self to the same standards one expects from their collaborators.

Executive Care as in making space for any body of knowledge, person or approach, regardless of historical origin, appearance, or language.
